Generative AI in less than a year has reshaped the landscape of data infrastructure and imposed new requirements for highly scalable, performant, and secure systems that can handle the unique challenges posed by large language models. New specialized clouds have formed to cater to AI-specific use cases. Enterprises are increasingly focused on building applications that assist with everything from content generation to customer support.
In many ways, we’ve entered a brave new world. And as the world turns, VAST continues to challenge the norms of the legacy data infrastructure industry at large. Today we are pleased to share that VAST Data has been recognized as a Challenger in the 2023 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Distributed File Systems and Object Storage for the second consecutive year.
Much has changed since last year’s Gartner Magic Quadrant was published.
Following the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, most organizations today are exploring generative AI use cases and many are making significant investments. Because AI applications are built to extract insights from massive troves of data, they require infrastructure with the highest levels of scale and performance.
As we discussed at our August launch event Build Beyond, the foundation of the next era of AI computing can only be built by resolving fundamental infrastructure tradeoffs that have previously inhibited AI applications from real-time data processing and learning. For unstructured data storage, that meant breaking the tradeoff between performance and capacity in the form of our file and object foundation, the VAST DataStore.
With the VAST DataStore we’ve freed organizations from storage tiering complications to become the foundation for enterprise AI-ready unstructured data storage, and in so doing, became a $100m ARR business and the software behind HPE GreenLake for File Storage.
In addition to the recognition in the Magic Quadrant, Gartner also listed VAST as a Sample Vendor in its recent report, A CTO’s Guide to the Generative AI Technology Landscape, which notes:
The most effective storage platform (for Generative AI) can accommodate multiple access protocols and scale performance and capacity independently, allowing on-demand performance flexibility and long-term cost-effectiveness.
The VAST DataStore ticks all of those boxes.
